August Board Meeting and Town Hall

Greetings Neighbors!

I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to all the community members who came out to share their thoughts and ask questions at our recent town hall and board meeting. Your input is invaluable to us as we work together to improve our neighborhood.

District Manager Hiring Process

The board shared that we are in the process of hiring a new district manager. Director Hogle and Director Hermesmeyer reviewed over a hundred job resumes, ensuring only qualified candidates were interviewed for the district manager position. All five board members had the opportunity to interview four candidates. During our meeting on August 20th, we discussed which candidate we wanted to make an offer to. We have selected one candidate and a backup, and we will announce the name of our new district manager as soon as we have finalized the contract. We also plan to hold one more strategic planning session with the new district manager.

Community Engagement and Communication

We are committed to engaging the community in new and improved ways. We aim to develop processes and policies that make our communication more transparent. We heard many ideas from residents on how to improve awareness of our meetings and other important updates.

Questions from Residents

Board Member Appointment: Director Hogle shared that Director Hermesmeyer remains on the board and is working behind the scenes until our new district manager is hired. We will discuss this topic at our next regularly scheduled board meeting in September.

Pickleball Court: A resident asked about the use of the pickleball court. We are pleased to report that the revised policy seems to be working well, and we’ve received positive feedback.

After-Hours Issues: Currently, we do not have someone on 24-hour notice for after-hours issues, such as property water leaks.

Composting Trash: There was a request to bring back composting services. Director Chaney asked the community members to give him any feedback on our current trash contract.

Activity Guide Enhancements: A resident suggested a format change to the activity guide to improve communication and the inclusion of financials.

Deed Restrictions and Tiny Houses: Residents inquired about the new city ordinance regarding tiny houses and if it has impacted any building projects. We are happy to report that we haven’t run into any problems with this in our neighborhood.

Community Involvement: A resident emphasized that while the board sets district policies, it’s the staff who carry them out. They also suggested increasing resident participation on committees to assist with district work. AMNA has many volunteers eager to contribute to the community.

Roadways and Median Maintenance

Several residents had questions about the roadways and medians in our neighborhood. Please note that the City of Austin maintains these areas, not AMLD.

Upcoming Meetings

There will be a board meeting this Thursday at 7:30pm. We will be discussing the budget. Please see the posted agenda for the meeting Thursday's Board Meeting.

Additionally, we will be having our regular Board of Directors meeting and Public Hearing on September 10 at 6:30pm. We hope you will be able to join us next Tuesday!

Thank You!

Our board has been working tirelessly in the absence of a district manager, taking on additional responsibilities and ensuring that the needs of our community are met during this transitional period. We appreciate everyone's patience and understanding as we navigate this challenging time. Your support has been invaluable, and we are eager to start a new chapter for the district with the arrival of our new district manager. Together, we will continue to make progress and strengthen our community.
