There’s real opportunity within the AMLD

In 2009, our Austin Metro Limited District entered into an agreement with the City of Austin. Since then, we’ve strayed from the rules outlined in it. I want our AMLD to realign with our original agreement for the betterment of our community, our services, and our neighbors. Below are the primary issues that I promise to address if I am elected to Place 2 Board Member.

Improve Communications

I believe AMLD Board members need to respond back to their constituents. I have written several unanswered emails to the current board. Citizen Communication at a meeting is the only way to guarantee that the board members will hear your concern. AMLD needs to reflect on how they listen to their residents. Anderson Mill residents can obtain important information about the neighborhood in a variety of different ways, like Facebook, website, activity guide and electric sign. I would like AMLD to reflect on which of these methods are effective in reaching the majority of the neighborhood.

Teen Programs

We have lots of programming and events where the target audience is Elementary school aged children. We have After school, kids night out, holiday camps and summer camps. We even have a Senior Center with classes, games and community building opportunities. I would like to create  programming that is designed for pre-teens and teenagers in our neighborhood.

Keep Our Promises

I was a resident that voted “yes” to the idea of creating Anderson Mill Limited District in 2009. I loved the idea of keeping control of our parks and pools, so they could stay at a quality that was higher than the City of Austin. I would like for our neighborhood to go back to this original agreement with the City. In 2009, we had 2 pools that were open year round and were open 7 days a week. We haven’t been able to get both pools open 7 days a week in the last several summers. AMLD also has been unsuccessful in  running the El Salido pool 7 days a week during Fall, Summer or Spring. I want this to change and the original promises to be kept.

A Voice For Every Village

AMLD is divided into 31 Villages. I would like to have a community committee that helps represent these different villages. One important thing that I have learned by coming to these meetings, is that different areas of our neighborhood experience different problems. It would be nice to have a small window into the many areas of AMLD and help find solutions that would better the whole neighborhood.

Review Our Trash Contract

How does everyone like having recycling every other week? The original trash contract that was signed by the board was not a good fit for the neighborhood. The idea that we would be rotating recycling and composting bins created a lot of headaches for the residents. The AMLD Board signed the original trash contract that eliminated bulk pick up. They wanted to rely on the City for this service twice a year.

Our Community Matters.
