May 14 AMLD Board Meeting Notes

Greetings, neighbors!

I was so excited to meet so many new residents at the May 14 meeting. I really appreciate everyone that was able to come out and see me get sworn in as the newest board member. It was a night that I will always remember.

As an AMLD Board member, I want to remind everyone that this newsletter is not the official notes from the meeting. These are my personal thoughts on the items that were discussed at the meeting. I have decided to shift my newsletter format, so that it doesn't resemble the official minutes.

Pickleball, anyone?

A resident shared his thoughts on AMLD’s pickleball court keys and reservation system. He explained that pickleball is a social sport that should encourage people of all ages to gather and play. The current reservation and key system doesn’t allow groups of people to come to the court to have open play.

He shared that he goes to Veterans Memorial courts to play pickleball, so he can engage in this kind of game. There is a website that he uses to find open games.

He suggested that AMLD could use this tool to create a way to connect residents to open play games. He asked the board if they would consider making changes to the court system.  Director Hogle asked for him to leave his contact information, so AMLD could reach out with any follow questions about this system.

Another resident also shared that she enjoys playing pickleball at Veterans Memorial Park. She would love it if AMLD would have open play days/ times so she could get a turn to play pickleball on weeknights. This is something that she has been working with AMNA to promote to the board. She extended an invitation for him to join AMNA, but he declined.

Deed restrictions

Deed restriction violations concerns were brought up by a couple of residents. They wanted to know how they can get neighbors to clean up their properties. AMLD has a reporting system where residents can report violations that they see. Also, the district have a staff member who allocates part of his time to deed restrictions.

Election Results

The Board of Directors canvassed the election results and shared that I won the place 2 race. Director Ottenbacher stepped down from 28 years of service to Anderson Mill. Several people shared how much she will be missed and how much they enjoyed working with her.

Director Ottenbacher expressed that she loved being on the board and helping the neighborhood. She stated that she was the most proud of putting in the splash pad at the El Salido pool. Thank you, Director Ottenbacher, for all of your years of service!

Kathryn Hogle and I were both sworn into office. We all agreed that we would wait to reconstitute the board until the next meeting.

Communication from the Board

I shared that at the next meeting I would like to discuss the pools, pickleball courts and communication in the district.

Director Hogle shared that she would like to discuss a meet and greet with residents before the board meetings.
